Billing and Plans

Billing explains what plan your workspace is on, which features are available, and where to start checkout or manage an existing subscription through the customer portal.

The billing area shows the current plan state and provides the correct next action: upgrade, review trial status, or manage an existing subscription.

Where Billing Lives

Billing is managed from Settings. The billing area shows the current plan for the account owner, the available upgrade options, and the button for opening the billing portal when a paid subscription already exists.

Use the Billing tab to review the current plan, start checkout, or open the customer portal for an existing paid subscription.

Mailrith uses Dodo Payments for checkout, payment method management, invoice access, and subscription changes. When you click a checkout or customer portal button, Mailrith sends you to the Dodo-hosted page for that billing task.

Free, Trial, and Paid Plan States

The billing page changes based on the workspace owner's plan state:

  • Free: Mailrith shows pricing cards and upgrade buttons. Pro features remain visible in the app so you can understand what is available, but protected Pro pages show an upgrade message instead of the full feature.
  • Trial: Mailrith shows the remaining trial time in the header when trial time is still available. If the trial is over or has zero days remaining, the trial badge is hidden.
  • Paid: Mailrith shows subscription details and a Manage subscription path instead of checkout cards.

A plan can affect which features are usable. For example, AI Connections, Team Members, Email Templates, Magic Links, and Automations may show a Pro upgrade screen on a free workspace. This is not an error; it means the feature exists but is not active for the selected workspace's plan.

Checkout and Customer Portal

Use checkout when you are moving from a free or trial state to a paid plan. Use the customer portal when you already have a paid subscription and need to update payment details, view invoices, or manage the subscription.

  1. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the Billing tab.
  3. Review the plan cards and choose the plan interval you want.
  4. Click Choose Monthly or Choose Annual, then complete payment on the secure Dodo page.
  5. Return to Mailrith after checkout. The billing page refreshes to show the paid state once the subscription is available.

If checkout is temporarily unavailable, Mailrith keeps the pricing cards visible so you can still review plan options. Try the checkout action again later rather than changing product data or recreating the workspace.

What an Upgrade Unlocks

Upgrading is workspace-focused in the product experience. After a workspace has Pro access, the protected Pro feature areas open normally from the sidebar. Features that were only discoverable on a free workspace become usable.

  • Automation features: use automations and magic links for behavior-based workflows.
  • Reusable email assets: manage email templates and use starting points in broadcasts and sequences.
  • Team workflows: invite team members and manage detailed permissions.
  • AI writing: connect supported AI providers and use AI drafting in broadcasts, sequences, and automations.

If you upgrade but still see a Pro gate, confirm you are viewing the Workspace that was upgraded. The sidebar workspace switcher controls which workspace is active.

Billing Checklist for Owners

  • Keep the payment method in the customer portal current so important campaigns are not interrupted by billing issues.
  • Use the same account owner for billing and workspace ownership when possible. This makes it clear who controls the subscription.
  • After upgrading, open the feature you need from the sidebar and confirm the upgrade state is gone before planning a live campaign around that feature.
  • If your team cannot see a paid feature, check both the workspace plan and that person's workspace permissions.
